*Fasteners for securing to the wall/structure are not included. Choose fasteners based on the material covering the building (wood screw, masonry screw, etc.).

A 50-foot kit comes with 50 feet of fencing material, not 60 feet. We advise ordering approximately 10% more than you need to allow for cut pieces and minor installation errors.

The above table applies to orders placed after 12/26/19.

Installation

Our freestanding system is designed to be installed by the average handy homeowner. Reference "What's Included" above. If your layout includes multiple turns or very specific side lengths, you may need additional posts (see the 2-Post Kit) above and beyond what is provided in the kits.

To determine if you need more posts, use these rules:

  • Every end and corner/turn needs a post.
  • Every change in grade (up/down) needs a post.
  • Measure between the posts that need to be in specific locations (rules 1 & 2) and divide by 14' (maximum post spacing).

If the total posts you need is more than 8 × the number of kits you are buying, you need that many more posts.

Planning Your Cat Fence

A 100-foot kit made into a square would be approximately 24' x 24' (576 square feet) but most customers use the back of their house as a "side" allowing a kit to make a larger overall enclosure and easier access for the cats. One example of a 100-foot kit enclosure off the back of a house would be 28' x 40' (28' out from the house - over 40' and back 28') making an enclosure that is 1,120 square feet. A 200 ft kit enclosure off the back of a house could be 64' x 64' (64' out from the house - over 64' and back 64') making an enclosure that is 4,096 square feet. We can assist you with outfitting any size yard!

Our planning engineers can help you pick the best cat containment fence based on your yard’s size, cat’s needs, and financial requirements. Check out our sample layouts to help you get an idea of what you’re looking for. While most pet parents can utilize a freestanding kit, others may require fence customization. When you have an idea of the structure type you’re interested in, scroll back up to order your fence, or get expert help by filling out a design form. This document gives us the ability to evaluate your situation and provide you with a plan and an estimate.

If the setup you’re interested in requires more components or posts, you can always purchase extras. Also, don’t forget to add a gate or two, especially if your mower needs an outlet into the freestanding cat fence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this actually contain my cat?

Yes! When properly installed, Purrfect Fence has an industry-best 99.9% effectiveness rate, and has helped over 100,000 cats safely enjoy the outdoors.

How much fence do I need?

We can help you outfit any size yard. Our planning engineers can recommend the best setup based on your yard's size, your cat's needs, and your budget. Use our free Fence Planner Tool to trace your yard, browse our sample layouts, or fill out a design form for a custom plan and estimate. As a guide, a 100-foot kit makes roughly a 24' x 24' enclosure (576 sq ft), and most customers use the back of their house as one side to enclose even more space.

Do I need any extra posts or parts?

Each kit includes everything sized to your selected length. If your layout has multiple turns or specific side lengths, you may need extra posts. Every end, corner/turn, and change in grade needs a post, and posts should be no more than 14' apart. You can always add more components or posts as needed. We advise ordering about 10% more fencing material than you think you need, to allow for cut pieces and minor installation errors.

Is there a discount if I add a gate?

Yes. Add any gate to your order and get $69 off your Freestanding System automatically at checkout. Many enclosures need at least one gate for access, and many customers often add a second wider gate for their mowers or if other equipment needs its own entrance.

How long does shipping take?

All kits ship free within the continental US. Most orders ship within 1-3 business days and arrive within 5-7 business days depending on your location.

How hard is installation?

Our systems are designed for DIY installation with basic tools you probably already own. Most homeowners complete their install in a weekend. If you'd prefer professional help, we have a nationwide network of installer partners. The free-standing system requires a power drill, wire snips, and a sledgehammer. Each kit comes with detailed written instructions and helpful videos, and our expert staff are available to guide you if anything is confusing or unexpected!

What is the Escape-Free Guarantee?

If your cat escapes through a properly installed Purrfect Fence system, we'll work with you to solve the issue at no additional cost. We've maintained a 99.9%+ success rate across nearly 100,000 cats.

How long will my fence last outdoors?

Purrfect Fence systems are built to last. Many customers report 15+ years of use. All parts and materials come with a 3-year warranty, and every component is individually replaceable if needed.

The posts, arms, and metal components are galvanized or stainless steel, with black components powder-coated for added outdoor durability. The welded-wire chew/dig guard and the polypropylene mesh are both UV-stabilized to resist damage from sunlight. The mesh has a breaking strength of around 600 lbs.

We've even tested our materials against competitors by submerging them in saltwater brine for weeks, and we stand behind Purrfect Fence as the strongest, most durable cat containment fence available.

Why is Purrfect Fence the most secure cat fence available?

The secret is our patented Cat-Proofer™ extender arms: if a cat climbs to the top, the arms pivot downward under their weight, and the sensation causes cats to naturally let go and drop safely back to the ground. Our patented design has seen 19 improvements over the past 20 years.

Why Purrfect Fence Is the Most Secure Cat Fence Available

The secret is in the patented Cat-Proofer™ extender arms, which enable the entire upper section of the fence to pivot. If a cat climbs to the top of the fence, the extender arms pivot downward under their weight. The sensation causes cats to naturally let go of the fence, dropping safely back to the ground.

A Tough Cat Fence Built to Last

All of the materials and components used with our Freestanding Fence system were selected for a specific purpose: to work together and create a long-lasting fence barrier.

The posts, arms, and metal components are made with galvanized or stainless steel. Black metal components are powder-coated for durability outdoors. The bottom portion uses galvanized welded wire as a chew guard and dig guard, keeping cats from digging or chewing their way out and keeping unwanted critters from getting in.

The upper portion is durable polypropylene mesh — heavy-duty but flexible, with a breaking strength around 600 lbs and proven difficult for cats to climb. Like the welded wire coating, our poly mesh is UV-stabilized for longevity outdoors.

A Modular and Flexible Cat Containment System

Purrfect Fence is designed to easily secure a perimeter of cat-proof fencing. It can be configured to different sizes to make your system as spacious as you'd like. You can also use freestanding cat fence segments together with cat-proofed areas of an existing fence.

Description

cat containment fence system

A Modular and Flexible Cat Containment Fencing System

Purrfect Fence is designed to easily secure a perimeter of cat-proof fencing. It can be configured to different sizes to make your system as spacious as you would like. You can also use freestanding cat fence segments together with cat-proofed areas of an existing fence using an Existing Fence Conversion System Kit.

Why Purrfect Fence is the Most Secure Cat Fence Available

The secret is in the patented Cat-Proofer™ extender arms, which enable the entire upper section of the fence to pivot. If a cat does climb to the top of the fence, the extender arms will pivot downward under their weight. The sensation causes cats to naturally let go of the fence, dropping safely back to the ground.

A Tough Cat Fence Built to Last

All of the materials and components used with our Freestanding Fence system were selected for a specific purpose to work together and create a long-lasting fence barrier.

The posts, arms, and all other metal components are made with galvanized or stainless steel. All black metal components are also powder-coated for more durability outdoors. The bottom portion of the fence is made with galvanized welded wire that serves as a "chew guard" and “dig guard” which keeps cats from digging or chewing their way out, and it keeps other unwanted critters from getting in. The black coating on the wire mesh is UV stabilized with carbon black and chemical UV inhibitors to slow the rate the fence fades over the years in sunlight.

The upper portion of the fence material is made of durable polypropylene mesh that is heavy-duty but remains flexible. This mesh has a breaking strength of around 600 lbs and has been proven difficult for cats to climb - acting as the first line of defense in escape prevention! Like the coating on the welded wire, our poly mesh is also UV stabilized for longevity outdoors.

We’ve done dozens of head-to-head tests with competing cat fences and their materials to test their strength, durability, and longevity. That includes a test submerging the fences in a saltwater brine for weeks on end. We can definitively say that Purrfect Fence is the strongest and most durable cat containment fence available.
